RIMC entrance exams are conducted in June and December each year — giving aspiring cadets two opportunities annually to secure a seat.
Candidates must not be younger than 11 years 6 months and not older than 13 years at the time of the examination.
At the time of admission to RIMC, the candidate must be studying in Class VII or must have completed Class VII from any recognised school.
After clearing the written exam and Viva, candidates undergo a medical examination conducted only at approved military hospitals.
The RIMC written examination consists of three papers. Answers can be written in Hindi or English. Every paper — including the Viva — carries a minimum qualifying score of 50%.
The highest-weighted paper in the RIMC exam. Covers the full Class VII/VIII Maths syllabus — arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and problem solving. Minimum 50% (100 marks) required to qualify.
Tests comprehension, grammar, composition, and writing skills. Answers in English only. Minimum 50% (63 marks) required. Strong command of written English is critical.
Covers current affairs, Indian history, geography, science, and general awareness. Can be answered in Hindi or English. Minimum 50% (38 marks) required to qualify.

There are 3 subjects in the RIMC written examination: Mathematics (200 marks), English (125 marks), and General Knowledge (75 marks) — totalling 400 marks. Answers to GK and Maths questions can be given in Hindi or English. After the written exam, shortlisted candidates appear for a Viva Voce interview of 50 marks. A minimum of 50% is required in every component to qualify.
